Caring Today Magazine And Intelecare Team Up To Lighten The Load For Caregivers
Medical adherence reminder company Intelecare integrates its voice, text, and mobile medical reminder service onto Caring Today's website for caregivers to customize free medical notifications for loved ones
New Haven, CT - March 11, 2008 - According to the Pew Research Center, one out of every eight Americans is both raising a child and caring for an aging parent, while 7 to 10 million adults care for a loved one long distance. This "sandwich generation" of caregivers is often overwhelmed with more responsibilities than they can handle when it comes to lending support to both their parents and their children on a daily basis.
A new partnership between Caring Today and Intelecare Compliance Solutions strives to help relieve some stress and worry from family caregivers by offering a free online medical reminder system on CaringToday.com. The program allows visitors to create personal reminders for loved ones over the phone, computer, or on their mobile devices.
Caring Today is a magazine and online resource dedicated to providing support, information, news, and advice to the 50 million family caregivers across the country. Its bimonthly national print publication has a circulation of 750,000, while its companion website provides information that both helps caregivers take care of their loved ones and remember their own needs.
Intelecare provides businesses with a host of patient-centric solutions including their web-based medical reminder system InteleApp. With the system, caregivers can provide the seniors they care for with regular emails, text messages, or voice messages to remind them to take their medication, refill their prescription, keep scheduled doctor's appointments or check their vital statistics. InteleApp is customizable -- caregivers will have the option of recording personalized voice messages or writing personalized notes for their loved ones. The service is free to those who register.
"This deal is exciting on a number of levels," said Kevin Aniskovich, founder and CEO of Intelecare. "Caregivers are special people who even without formal medical training must balance their everyday lives with raising children, working, and managing their own healthcare issues - at some point healthcare is often overlooked due to simple forgetfulness. Working with Caring Today allows Intelecare to focus on developing new relevant programs for this unique segment while at the same time offering today's caregivers the peace of mind that their loved ones are receiving their medications and remembering their doctor's appointments, even if they can't be physically with them."
With one in two patients not complying to doctors' prescription directions, and with 84 percent of those polled citing forgetfulness as the reason, medication adherence is a serious issue for all caregivers - especially those who do not always have the time or ability to check up with their loved one each day. Not taking prescribed medication as instructed leads to $47 billion in preventable hospital visits each year.
Victor Imbimbo, President and CEO of Caring Today added, "The product [InteleApp] fit so perfectly with what the needs of our consumers were that we wanted to have it on our website."
